Where We Started
In 2016, we purchased an old apartment in need of renovation, intending to flip and sell it.

The property was transferred "as is," complete with the owner's belongings, which he was unable to take with him due to his long-distance immigration.

So, along with the property, we received all the furniture, interior items, and a large library of books. A true treasure for us and an opportunity to breathe new life into old items, many of which, of course, required upcycling.

The downside is the need to dismantle, clean, and sort all the belongings, and the need to recycle a large portion of them.
Our Final Point
Our goal was to maintain the apartment's functionality and the necessary areas for a kitchen, dining area, lounge area, and bedroom privacy, while simultaneously visually expanding the space and adding more light, brightness, atmosphere, and optimism.
✰ IDEA
To visually expand the space and allow more air and light, we decided to remove the wall between the living room, kitchen, and hallway. This allowed us to create a more open studio space while maintaining the bedroom's privacy by keeping it enclosed.
✰ Kitchen
The small kitchen was left open. If needed, essential kitchenware could be stored in a cabinet, visually dividing the kitchen and living room.
✰ Living room
We replaced the windows, sills, and trim, knocked down two walls, and installed new drywall partitions around the bathroom. We levelled the walls, floor, and ceiling. The walls were painted white, and the doors a lighter colour. We upcycled some furniture. The walls were decorated with original paintings and graphic works. New lamps and new textiles were added: curtains, pillows, and throws.
✰ Library
A large library of brightly coloured hardback books was sorted not by genre or author, but by colour, creating a vibrant accent in the living room.
✰ Hall
A vintage wall coat rack was repainted. It was paired with a carved wall key shelf (under the mirror) and a repainted and reupholstered ottoman. One of the old doors was removed, and the other (with its panels) was repainted. To visually separate the entryway from the living area, laminate flooring in a different colour was installed in that area.
✰ Bedroom
In addition to levelling and painting the walls and replacing the flooring, a decorative wooden wall was installed over the vanity area. The vanity furniture consists of two bedside tables, repainted and joined by a single tabletop. A mirror from the old set was placed in a wooden frame. The bed was also repainted, and the mattress was replaced with a new one. The work area was designed, and the balcony doors were replaced. The walls were decorated with original paintings.
✰ Bathroom
We also combined two small bathrooms into one and installed new drywall partitions around the bathroom. Here, the plumbing and tiles on the floor and walls were completely replaced.
✰ Original Art
All paintings were created using acrylic and ink, using geometric, graphic, animalistic, and naturalistic styles. All pieces were framed and stretched and left in the new owner's home.
✰ Upcycled Furniture
Some of the furniture (the bed, chairs, part of the display cabinet, vanity, ottomans, and coffee tables) were restored and repainted. The front door was also repainted. Due to the durable old varnish applied in thick layers to the furniture and door, we had to use a durable alkyd primer under the furniture paint.
